Caloocan City's Population Increased By About 200,000 Persons (Results from the 2007 Census Of Population)

Population increased to 1,381,610 persons

The total population of Caloocan City, as of August 1, 2007, was 1,381,610 persons. This represents an increase of 204,006 persons over the total population of 1,177,604 persons in 2000. This increase translated to an annual population growth rate (PGR) of 2.23 percent for the period 2000 to 2007, lower than the PGR of 3.06 percent recorded during the period 1995 to 2000

Average household size was 4.5 persons

The number of households reached 309,621 in 2007, or an increase of 60,054 households from the 2000 figure. Likewise, household population increased from 1,174,673 persons in 2000 to 1,379,942 persons in 2007. The average household size in 2007 was 4.5 persons, lower than the average household size of 4.7 persons in 2000.

Barangay 176 was the largest barangay in terms of population size

 

Among the 188 barangays of Caloocan City, Barangay 176 had the largest population with 16.1 percent share to the total population of the city. This was followed by Barangay 178 (6.2 percent), Barangay 177 (4.8 percent), Barangay 171 (4.7 percent), and Barangay 175 (3.6 percent). The rest of the barangays had less than 4.0 percent contribution each to the city's total population. The least populated was Barangay 72 with 0.01 percent share to the total population.

Sex ratio was 99 males per 100 females

Of the 1,379,942 household population of Caloocan City, 688,005 were males and 691,937 were females, resulting to a sex ratio of 99 males for every 100 females. This was slightly lower than the sex ratio of 100 males per 100 females in 2000.

Median age increased to 23 years

In 2007, the household population of Caloocan City had a median age of 23 years, which implies that half of the household population were below 23 years old. In 2000, the median age was lower at 22 years.

Household population aged 0 to 4 years and 5 to 9 years comprised the largest age groups with 11.3 percent each. This was followed by age groups 10 to 14 years and 15 to 19 years, with 10.4 percent and 10.3 percent, respectively.

Females outnumbered males in most age groups, except in 0 to 14 years, 30 to 39 years, and 45 to 49 years.

Proportion of females of voting age was higher than that of males

About 61 percent of the household population in Caloocan City belonged to the voting-age population (18 years old and over), the proportion of which was higher among females (50.9 percent) compared to that of males (49.1 percent). The proportion of voting-age population in 2007 was slightly higher than the proportion of voting-age population (59.8 percent) recorded in 2000.

Overall dependency ratio dropped to 55 dependents per 100 working-age population

The proportion of household population in the working age group (15 to 64 years) was 64.3 percent, young dependents (0 to14 years) comprised 32.9 percent, and old dependents (65 years and over) accounted for 2.8 percent.

The overall dependency ratio in 2007 was 55, which means that for every 100 persons in the working age group, there were about 55 dependents (51 young dependents and 4 old dependents). In 2000, there were about 59 dependents (55 young dependents and 4 old dependents) for every 100 persons in the working age group.

Never-married persons comprised more of males than females

About 44 percent of the household population 10 years old and over in 2007 were never married while 42.1 percent were married. The rest were either widowed, divorced/separated, in common law/live-in marital arrangement, or had unknown marital status. There were more males than females among never-married persons (52.1 percent versus 47.9 percent). Females outnumbered the males in the rest of the categories for marital status.

More females had attained higher levels of education

Of the household population five years old and over, 24.7 percent had attended or finished elementary education, 40.2 percent had reached or completed high school, 12.1 percent were college undergraduates, and 10.6 percent were academic degree holders.

There were more females than males among those who had attained higher levels of education. Females comprised 54.0 percent of those with academic degrees and 56.8 percent of those with post baccalaureate courses.

Among household population 5 to 24 years old, 64.5 percent had attended school at anytime during School Year 2007 to 2008. Of the total males aged 5 to 24 years, 65.2 percent had attended school at anytime during the said school year. School attendance for females was 63.8 percent of the total females aged 5 to 24 years.

Number of occupied housing units increased by about 26 percent

From a total of 235,469 occupied housing units in 2000, the number of occupied housing units reached 297,199 in 2007, showing an increase of 26.2 percent. In 2007, a ratio of 104 households for every 100 occupied housing units was recorded, while in 2000, the ratio was 106 households per 100 occupied housing units. The ratio of persons per occupied housing unit was 4.6 in 2007, lower than the ratio of 5.0 in 2000.

Increased proportions of occupied housing units with strong materials for roofs and outer walls

Nearly six in every ten (58.9 percent) of the 297,199 occupied housing units had outer walls made of concrete/brick/stone, while more than one in four (27.6 percent) had outer walls made of half concrete/brick/stone and half wood. As to construction materials of the roofs, majority (86.6 percent) of the occupied housing units had roofs made of galvanized iron/aluminum. Occupied housing units with roofs made of half galvanized iron and half concrete comprised 8.8 percent.
