Total Population of Bukidnon Reached 1,190,284 Persons (Results from the 2007 Census of Population)

Bukidnon posted a total population of 1,190,284 persons as of August 1, 2007. This represents an increase of 129,869 persons over the population count of 1,060,415 persons in 2000. This increase translates into an annual population growth rate of 1.61 percent for the period 2000 to 2007.

The number of households also rose by 37,122, from 201,777 in 2000 to 238,899 in 2007. The average household size in 2007 was 5.0 persons, lower than the 5.3 average household size in 2000.

City of Valencia was the most populated in the province

Among two cities and 20 municipalities in Bukidnon, City of Valencia (13.7 percent) was the most populated. This was followed by City of Malaybalay, the provincial capital (12.1 percent), and municipality of Quezon (7.7 percent). Damulog (1.8 percent) was the least populated municipality.

Males outnumbered females

The household population in Bukidnon had 617,143 males and 568,260 females, which resulted in a sex ratio of 109 males for every 100 females. The sex ratio in 2000 was106 males for every 100 females.

Median age was 19 years

Bukidnon recorded a median age of 19 years in 2007. This means that half of the household population were below 19 years old. The median age in 2000 was 18 years.

Four in ten of the total household population were under 15 years old. Children aged 0 to 4 years comprised the largest age group (13.7 percent), followed by those in age groups 5 to 9 years and 10 to 14 years (12.9 percent each). There were more males than females in the age brackets 0 to 69 years, while there were more females than males in the age brackets 70 years and over.

More than half of the household population were in voting age group

More than half (53.1 percent) of the household population of the province were in the voting age group (18 years old and over). The distribution of voting-age population by sex showed that males (52.5 percent) outnumbered the females (47.5 percent).

Dependency ratio down to 75

The proportion of young dependents (0 to 14 years) to total household population was 39.6 percent. The old dependents (65 years and over) comprised 3.3 percent of the household population while the working-age population (15 to 64 years), 57.2 percent.

The overall dependency ratio was 75 dependents for every 100 persons in the working age group. Of the 75 dependents, 69 were young dependents and 6 were old dependents. In 2000, there were about 81 dependents (76 young and 5 old dependents) for every 100 persons in the working-age population.

Never-married persons comprised more males than females

Of the household population 10 years old and over in 2007, 49.2 percent were married while 44.1 percent were never-married. The marital status of the rest of the population was either widowed, divorced/separated, common law/live-in, or no report on marital status. Among never-married persons, there were more males (57.0 percent) than females (43.0 percent). Females outnumbered the males in the rest of the categories for marital status.

More females had attained higher levels of education

Of the household population 5 years old and over, 48.5 percent had attended or completed elementary education, 27.3 percent reached or completed high school, 5.5 percent were college undergraduates, and 4.7 percent were academic degree holders.

Among academic degree holders and among those with post baccalaureate courses, more than half were females. Among academic degree holders, females comprised 58.5 percent and among those with post baccalaureate course, 58.8 percent.

Among the household population 5 to 24 years old, 59.0 percent attended school at anytime during the School Year 2007 to 2008. Of the total females aged 5 to 24 years, 61.5 percent attended school at anytime during the said school year, while attendance for males was lower at 56.8 percent of the total males aged 5 to 24 years.

101 households for every 100 occupied housing units

A total of 238,899 households resided in 236,108 housing units in Bukidnon. These numbers translate into a ratio of 101 households for every 100 occupied housing units, or 5 persons per occupied housing unit. In 2000, the ratio of households to occupied housing units was 102 households for every 100 occupied housing units, or 5.3 persons per occupied housing unit.

Majority of the occupied housing units were made of strong materials

The majority (89.8 percent) of the occupied housing units in Bukidnon had roofs made of galvanized iron/aluminum, up by 10.2 percentage points from the proportion recorded in 2000. Meanwhile, 48.2 percent of the housing units in 2007 had outer walls made of wood, down by 5.8 percentage points from the 2000 figure. Housing units with outer walls made of concrete/brick/stone accounted for 18.1 percent of the total occupied housing units, higher by 5.2 percentage points from the 2000 figure.
