NSO launches outputs of UNFPA-funded project

The National Statistics Offices (NSO) is set to launch on Monday, 8 November 1999, the results of several research undertakings in connection with the project "Strengthening the NSO in Providing Data for Local Development Planning." Deputy Administrator Nelia Marquez, NSO Officer-in-Charge (OIC) will be officially presenting the outputs of the special project, in monographs forms, to Ms. Uyen Loung, Resident Representative of the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA) in a ceremony which will be held at 1:00 PM at the Holiday Inn in Manila. The UNFPA provided the funds for the project.

Several prominent personalities who have played major role in the successful completion of the project are likewise expected to grace the occasion. These include, among others, Fr. Wilheim Flieger, Director of Office of the Population Studies, San Carlos City, Dr. Mercedes B. Concepcion from the University of the Philippines and Ms. Paula Monina Collado, OIC, NSO Household Statistics Department. The activity will be capped by Dr. Aurora Perez, Resident Advisor of the Futures Group.

The monograph series set for launching include the 1995 Census-based population projections in three (3) volumes - national/regional, national/regional/provincial and city/municipal based. Likewise, gender specific life tables for the Philippines and the demographic and socio-economic profiles of 20 selected provinces will also be presented. Data presentations in the monographs are disaggregated up to the barangay level to suit the requirements of the Social Reform Agenda.

The extensive compendium of information about the population age structure, migration, fertility, mortality as well as educational attainment, employment status and household characteristics, among others, shall serve as helpful reference material for planning and policy-making at the grassroots level.
