NSO forges partnership with the LGUs to eliminate red tape

In line with the President's directive to simplify and to streamline the delivery of civil registry services in support of good governance, the National Statistics office, the agency mandated to carry out and administer the provisions of Act No. 3753, otherwise known as the Civil Registry Law, is set to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the local government units (LGUs) in the Metropolitan Manila area today. The signing ceremony which will be held at the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) office in Quezon City and shall be witnessed, among others, by DILG Secretary Jose Lina, Jr. and Metro Manila Development Authority Chairman, Benjamin Abalos.

The MOU is among the many efforts of the NSO in line with its commitment to better serve the public, particularly in the issuances of copies of birth, marriage and death certificates in security paper (SECPA). It will allow Local Civil Registry Offices (LCROs) in the Metropolitan Manila area, to issue copies of civil registry documents in SECPA for their constituents authenticated by officially designated NSO employee on site. Prior to this MOU, the NSO has allowed the use of security paper to certain LCROs.

NSO Administrator and Civil Registrar-General Carmelita Ericta would like to remind the LCRs, "to preserve the intrinsic value and integrity of the SECPA documents to be issued by the LCROs for whatever purpose it may be used."

In line with this commitment, NSO Administrator and Civil Registrar-General Carmelita N. Ericta has emphasized that there is the continuing need to strive for integrity and reliability of the civil registry system.
