  • Producer Price Index (PPI) maintains two-digit growth

Producer Price Index (PPI) for the manufacturing industry maintained its two-digit year-on-year increase, registering 14.3 percent in August 2006. Significant price increases were observed in seventeen (17) major sectors, with two-digit growth observed in the following: electrical machinery, machinery excluding electrical, leather products, footwear and wearing apparel, rubber products, petroleum products and non-metallic mineral products. Refer to Tables 1 and 1-A. Refer to Tables 1 and 1-A.

However, PPI on monthly basis declined, but at a slower rate of 0.8 percent in August 2006. The price increases observed in the eleven (11) major sectors were offset by the price decreases noted in the nine (9) major sectors. Petroleum products contributed a notable decline of 5.7 percent. Refer to Tables 1 and 1-B.
