Participants from all over the country have started arriving today in Cagayan de Oro City to attend the 5th National Convention of Solemnizing Officers (5NCSO) that will be held on October 9-11, 2007 at the Atrium, Limketkai Center. Invited guest speakers and resource persons who are prominent and noted experts in their respective fields have committed to share their knowledge and experiences before an audience of more than a thousand.
"As of last count, there are more than one thousand four hundred twenty seven (1,427) confirmed participants composed of priests, pastors, imams, and other solemnizing officers from various sects and denominations; judges; city/municipal mayors and their local civil registrars as well as other concerned personnel from all over the country to the national convention," said NSO Administrator and Civil Registrar General (CRG) Carmelita Ericta during the press conference held today, as a kick off of the main event.
The three-day convention aims to provide participants a forum for the discussion of the solemnization of marriages, the implementation of marriage laws and rules and, the procedures on registration of marriages including relevant issues and concerns.
Mayor Constantino G. Jaraula of the host city will welcome the participants while CRG Ericta will give a message during the brief opening ceremonies in the morning of 09 October. Chief Public Attorney Persida V. Rueda-Acosta will be the keynote speaker.
Immediately afterwards, the national convention will proceed focusing on this year’s theme "Civil Registration: A Global Concern" through the sharing of experiences, paper presentations, plenary sessions, and open fora. The convention will be put to a close on 11 October that will be highlighted with Misamis Oriental Governor Oscar S. Moreno as guest speaker.
The 5NCSO is the fifth in a series of national conventions of solemnizing officers organized by the NSO and is being held every two years. The first one was undertaken in 1999 also in Cagayan de Oro City while the last one was held in 2005 in Bacolod City.
