RETAIL PRICE INDEX OF SELECTED CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS IN THE NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION

  • Month-on-Month

              The month-on-month growth rate of selected construction materials in NCR went up to 2.5 percent in March from 0.5 percent in February. Higher monthly growth rates were noticed in carpentry materials at 0.3 percent in March from 0.2 percent in February; painting materials and related compounds, 0.2 percent from -0.2 percent; and miscellaneous construction materials, 11.7 percent from 0.8 percent. Price gain in plumbing materials index at 0.2 percent was the same rate posted last month while prices for tinsmithry materials remained stable as the group's index registered a zero growth from 0.2 percent. The rest of the commodity groups recorded slower positive monthly price adjustments.

              Upward movements in the prices of plywood, lawanit, cement, nails, gravel, sand, painting materials and steel bars were observed this month.

  • Year-on-Year

              The annual growth rate of the retail prices of selected construction materials in NCR picked up by 2.2 percentage points to 5.5 percent in March from 3.3 percent in February. Annual growth rates were higher in masonry materials at 3.8 percent in March from 3.6 percent in February; plumbing materials, 1.5 percent from 1.4 percent; tinsmithry materials, 1.1 percent from 1.0 percent; and miscellaneous construction materials, 21.0 percent from 9.1 percent. On the other hand, slower annual growth rates were correspondingly seen in electrical materials and painting materials and related compounds at 6.1 percent and 3.5 percent from their last month's rates of 6.9 percent and 3.7 percent, respectively. Annual growth rate of carpentry materials remained at 1.2 percent.
