The total population of Eastern Visayas (Region VIII)
as of September 1, 1995 is
3,366,917

  The population of Region VIII grew at the rate of 1.84 percent annually in the first half of the nineties. This is 0.96 percentage point higher than the annual geometric census growth rate during the eighties (0.88 percent)
Among the six provinces in Region VIII,
  Leyte registered the largest population at 1,511,251 persons, and
  Biliran, the smallest at 132,209 persons.
Northern Samar was the fastest growing province in the region with
           an annual growth rate of 3.21 percent, while
Southern Leyte experienced a decline in population at the rate of
           0.26 percent annually.
