population of CAR grew at the rate of 1.71 percent annually in
the first half of the nineties. This is 0.57 percentage point lower than
the annual geometric census growth rate during the eighties (2.28 percent)

Among the six provinces in the Cordillera Administrative Region,
Benguet
registered the largest population at 540,716 persons,
and Apayao,
which used to be part of the province of Kalinga-Apayao
has
the smallest at 83,660 persons.

Kalinga
was the fastest growing province in the region with an
annual growth rate of 2.23 percent,
while Ifugao
was the slowest at 0.29 percent.
