CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS
WHOLESALE PRICE INDEX
in the National Capital Region
(1985=100)
July 2007
Month-on-Month
The Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index (CMWPI) in the
National Capital Region (NCR) recorded a slower rate of increment of 0.2 percent in July
from 0.6 percent in June. Negative rates were noted in paints (-0.1 percent from zero
growth); interior electrical fixtures and devices (-0.9 percent from 1.0 percent); and
electrical rough-in materials (-1.1 percent from 1.1 percent). Likewise, increases in the
prices of wood products and fuels and lubricants correspondingly decelerated to 0.1
percent and 0.3 percent from 1.6 percent and 2.2 percent, respectively. On the other hand,
higher growth rates were observed in the prices of cement, hardware, and structural steel.
Prices for the rest of the commodity groups generally remained stable as they registered
zero growth this month.
Year-on-Year
The annual inflation rate of the CMWPI in NCR slowed down to 3.3
percent in July from 4.3 percent in June. Annual price declines were seen in plywood,
fuels and lubricants, and exterior electrical equipment/supplies. Moreover, slower annual
rates were noted in the prices of ten commodity groups. Annual adjustments in the prices
of hardware, metal pipes, concrete products, and structural steel were however higher
while movements in the prices of asphalt, blasting materials and machinery and equipment
was zero. The rest of the commodity groups retained their previous month's rates.
