NSO Hosts Farewell Dinner for UN ESCAP Statistics Chief

The NSO hosted a farewell dinner in honor of Mr. Andrew J. Flatt, Chief of the Statistics Division of the UN ESCAP in Bangkok Thailand, last August 17, 2005 at the Ilustrado in Intramuros, Manila. Mr Flatt’s term ended last August 31, 2005 after the serving the prestigious institution for 28 years.

Andy, as he is known to family and friends, will return to his home country in the United Kingdom. He certainly has gotten a soft heart for Bangkok that he plans to return to that city with his family sometime in the future.

Mr Flatt was in Manila to observe the 6th ASEAN Heads of Statistical Offices Meeting (AHSOM) which was held from August 16 to 17, 2005 at the Century Park Hotel. The AHSOM was participated by officials from Brunei Darrusalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. Also in attendance were officials of the ASEAN Secretariat, UN SIAP, ADB, Paris 21 and a consultant for an ASEAN project.

During the dinner, some AHSOM delegates and other friends from the ASEAN community gave tribute to Andy for his significant contributions to the strengthening of the statistical systems in the region. The 'putong' ceremony was the highlight of the dinner and was followed by the singing of "May the Good Lord Bless and Keep You" and "Good Luck, Good Health, God Bless You".

We salute you, Mr Flatt!
