1. Provides over-all direction in the formulation of plans and programs, policies and standards for the development and implementation of information systems, database systems, network systems, digital mapping systems, as well as dissemination systems for NSO statistical products in support to the attainment of the mission and mandated functions of the agency;
2. Coordinates with NSO Regional Offices and other organic units of the agency on matters related to the programs and projects of the department;
3. Monitors the implementation of the workplan and activities of the divisions in the department;
4. Monitors the over-all performance of the network and other IT-related infrastructure of the agency;
5. Coordinates with various government and non-government agencies for the implementation of IT-related projects such as the Unified ID system and the Civil Registry System;
6. Provides technical support services to NSO central office units on their computing and other IT-related needs through the provision of data conversion services, server and network operations, digital mapping and computer maintenance services;
7. Provides technical expertise in the setting of standards and classification systems to the Philippine Statistical System in the field of statistical data processing, coding systems, mapping and dissemination systems;
8. Provides technical assistance and support services to NSO field offices, local government units, national and international agencies and other private institutions and individuals on matters related to information technology, mapping and dissemination;
9. Reviews press releases, special releases, and publications prepared by the divisions in the department and other organic units before these are published; and 
10. Performs other functions as maybe assigned from time to time.
