A. Activities
 
  1. Census of Population and Housing (CPH) - a decennial undertaking to obtain an inventory of the total population and housing units in the country. It gathers information on the size and distribution of the population as well as information about its demographic, social, economic, and cultural characteristics. It also gathers information on the supply of housing units, their structural characteristics and facilities

  2. Census of Agriculture and Fisheries (CAF) - a complete count of all farm operators in the Philippines. It gathers basic characteristics of each farm such as size, location, tenure status, source of irrigation, crops planted, livestock and poultry raised, agricultural practices, and others

  3. Census of Philippine Business and Industry (CPBI), formerly Census of Establishments - a comprehensive collection and compilation of statistical information pertaining to the economic activities of establishments in the country

B. Household Surveys
 
  1. Family Income and Expenditure Survey (FIES) - a nationwide survey conducted every three years; it gathers information on family income and family living expenditure and related information affecting income and expenditure levels and patterns in the Philippines

  2. Annual Poverty Indicators Survey (APIS) - a nationwide survey conducted annually, except when there is Family Income and Expenditure Survey; it gathers information on various indicators relating to poverty

  3. Family Planning Survey (FPS) - an annual nationwide survey of women of reproductive age (15 to 45 years old) that collects information on contraceptive use in the Philippines; primarily used by the Family Planning Service of the Department of Health for its family planning policies and programs

  4. Labor Force Survey (LFS) - a nationwide survey of households undertaken every quarter, designed to provide statistics on levels and trends of employment, unemployment, and underemployment for the country, as a whole, and for each of the country’s administrative regions

  5. National Demographic and Health Survey - a nationwide survey conducted every five years, designed to measure trends in demographic and family planning indicators, maternal and child health, fertility, and other health concerns

  6. Survey on Children (SOC) - a nationwide survey designed to collect data on the status and conditions of all working children 5 to 17 years old, including the economic status of the household to which the children belong

  7. Functional Literacy, Education, and Mass Media Survey (FLEMMS) - a nationwide survey conducted every five years; presents comprehensive statistics on the latest status of literacy, education, and mass media exposure of Filipinos.

  8. Household Energy Consumption Survey (HECS) - presents energy statistics that serve as inputs and bases for the formulation of policies and programs concerning energy-related social issues, for assessing energy targets, and to identify the relevant parameters that affect energy consumption of households and the industry sectors

  9. Survey on Overseas Filipinos (SOF) - a nationwide survey that intends to monitor the number and economic contribution of overseas workers and determine the levels and trends of international migration

  10. Household Survey on Domestic Visitors (HSDV) - a nationwide survey that presents the profile, characteristics, and travel patterns of domestic Filipinos throughout the country

C. Establishment Surveys
 
  1. Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI), formerly Annual Survey of Establishments - provides statistics on the structure, trends, and levels of economic activity in the country

  2. Monthly Integrated Survey of Selected Industries (MISSI) - provides flash indicators on the performance of growth-oriented industries in the manufacturing sector

  3. Producer’s Price Survey (PPS) - measures monthly and yearly changes in producer’s prices of key commodities in the manufacturing sector; generates the producer’s price index (PPI), that serves as deflator to the value of production index (VaPI) in the estimation of the volume of production index (VoPI)

  4. Consumer Price Survey (CPS) - weekly and bi-monthly survey on the changes in the prices of commodities consumed and services availed of by an ordinary Filipino household; serves as bases in the computation of consumer price index (CPI) and inflation rate

D. Administrative-based Statistics
 
  1. Foreign Trade Statistics (FTS) - compiled from import and export documents submitted by importers and exporters or their authorized representatives to the Bureau of Customs as well as documents for imports cleared through the export processing zones

  2. Commodity Flow (Domestic Trade) Statistics - data generated from the flow of commodities within and among the different regions of the country by means of air, water, and rail transport system

  3. Private Building Construction Statistics - data generated from building permits issued on the size of the floor area, type, and value of building constructions proposed to be constructed

  4. Vital Statistics - data generated from birth, death, and marriage statistics

E. Economic and Social Studies
 
  1. Input-Output (I-O) Table - a matrix that provides detailed accounting of the amount of goods and services that individual sectors buy from and sell to each other

  2. Population Studies - include preparation of researches on fertility, mortality, migration, nuptiality, and other demographic characteristics as well as construction of life tables and preparation of population estimates, projections of households, labor force, housing, and the like

F. Civil Registration Services
 

The NSO functions as the central repository of all civil registry documents such as birth, death, and marriage certificates. About 130 million documents are kept in the archives with about 2.5 million records added annually. The public is served through the issuance of:

  1. certified copy of birth, death, and marriages certificates
  2. authentication of civil registry documents acquired from the Office of the Local Civil Registrars
  3. issuance of Certificate of Authority to Solemnize Marriage (CRASM) to religious ministers
  4. issuance of certification on single status of persons (CENOMAR or Certificate of No Marriage)
  5. supervision and coordination of Local Civil Registrars nationwide
