TOP CONTRIBUTORS TO MERCHANDISE EXPORTS GROWTH IN THE PHILIPPINES, JUNE 2000 AND JUNE 1999 (Preliminary)
Posting a 25.3 percent increase in receipts, Electronics and Components (E&C) remained as the top export for June 2000, with an aggregate value placed at $2.228 billion.
- About 55.1 percent of E&C came from exports of semi-conductor devices, majority of which were those manufactured from materials on consignment basis bringing $1.137 billion in June 2000 compared to $1.035 billion a year ago.
- Micro-circuits comprised 19.3 percent of E&C exports and was valued at $430.47 million. The major micro-circuits export was Other Monolithic Digital Integrated Circuits group which comprised 11.7 percent of the aggregate revenue for electronics and components.
- Receipts from Other electronics and components consisting mainly of finished electrical and electronic machinery and parts, manufactured from materials on consignment basis, accounted for 13.4 percent of E&C and amounted to $300.034 million.
- Revenue for Input/Output/Peripheral Units was valued at $271.86 million which rose by 28.2 percent over $212.05 million a year ago.

Articles of Apparel and Clothing Accessories not manufactured from materials on consignment basis were valued at $127.63 million or 14.1 percent higher than $111.84 million a year back and accounted for 56.1 percent of the total receipts of the second top earner. Women's wear manufactured from materials on consignment basis valued at $35.76 million accounted for 15.7 percent while men's wear worth $34.19 million accounted for 15.0 percent. Children's and infant's wear followed with $19.51 million or 8.6 percent of the total.
Sales of Coconut Oil, the third top earner for the month, went up by 227.7 percent to $47.93 million from $14.63 million last year.
Exports of Petroleum Products valued at $24.42 million went up by 129.8 percent from $10.63 million or an increase of $13.79 million. The steep climb was largely due to the 117.5 percent increase in sales of petroleum naphtha amounting to $11.05 million from $5.08 million a year back.
SHARE OF US MARKET FOR E&C DOWN TO 24.2 PERCENT
Exports of E&C to the United States amounted to $538.71 million which was 7.2 percent higher than $502.66 million last year. However, the United States share to total fell to 24.2 percent from 28.3 percent. The share of Netherlands was at 10.9 percent as value grew by 25.7 percent to $242.53 million from $192.96 million. Following closely, exports to Singapore grew by 21 percent to $241.48 million; Taiwan, by 57 percent to $235.70 million; and Japan, by 12.9 percent to $223.49 million.

SHIPMENTS OF GARMENT TO US REACH $173.12 MILLION
Aggregate receipts from the United States of $173.12 million represented 76.1 percent of the total exports of Articles of Apparel and Clothing Accessories. This was 2.7 percent higher than $168.57 million last year. Far behind were UK of Great Britain with a 4.6 percent share; Germany with a 3.1 percent share; and Canada with a 3.0 percent share.

NETHERLANDS THE TOP MARKET OF COCONUT OIL
The Netherlands received 40.4 percent of the total export of Coconut Oil for June 2000 with the amount of $19.34 million from nil a year earlier. Receipts from the United States went up by 186.5 percent to $13.97 million with a share of 29.1 percent. Sales to Malaysia reached $4.909 million with a share of 10.2 percent from nil in 1999.

PETROLEUM PRODUCTS TO SINGAPORE UP BY 572.8 PERCENT
Exports of Petroleum Products to Singapore represented 56.3 percent of total. Sales to Singapore grew by 572.8 percent to $13.75 million from only $2.04 million in June 1999. Japan ranked second with payments of $3.07 million or 12.6 percent of the total. Korea followed with an 11.1 percent share while People’s Republic of China was fourth with a 6.3 percent share.
