TOP CONTRIBUTORS TO PHILIPPINE MERCHANDISE EXPORTS GROWTH, JULY 2000 AND JULY 1999 (Preliminary)
Electronics & components (E&C) remained as the top export for July 2000, with an aggregate value of $1.863 billion which increased by 5.8 percent from $1.761 billion in 1999.
- About 48.9 percent of this amount came from semi-conductors which generated $910.47 million. While sales declined by 11.1 percent from $1.02 billion in July last year, it still was the biggest export earner under E&C. These were mainly from sales of semi-conductor devices manufactured from materials on consignment basis which netted $821.10 million.
- Micro-circuits, valued at $351.02 million, was second comprising 18.8 percent of total E&C earnings. Under microcircuits, the top commodity earner was Other Monolithic Digital Integrated Circuits valued at $204.26 million which grew by 35.1 percent from $151.24 million last year.
- Receipts from Other electronics components consisting mainly of finished electrical and electronic machinery and parts, manufactured from materials on consignment basis, accounted for 17.5 percent and gained 39.4 percent to $326.72 million from $234.39 million a year ago.
- Meanwhile revenues from Input/Output/Peripheral Units, with a value of $275.00 million and a share of 14.8 percent of total E&C receipts went up by 16.0 percent from $236.98 million a year ago.
Articles of Apparel and Clothing Accessories (AACA)was the second top export earner for July 2000 with $277.42 million.
- Articles of Apparel and Clothing Accessories NOT manufactured from materials on consignment basis accounted for 58.5 percent of the total AACA receipts with sales amounting to $162.38 million. This was 33.6 percent higher than $121.54 million a year ago.
- Those manufactured on consignment basis combined for 41.5 percent with women's wear manufactured from materials on consignment basis leading at $43.42 million. Men's wear worth $36.35 million accounted for 13.1 percent. Children's and infant's wear followed with $23.40 million or 8.4 percent of the total.

Revenues from Coconut Oil, the third top earner for the month, went up by 130.0 percent to $57.44 million from $24.98 million last year.
- Crude coconut oil accounted for 80 percent of total earnings from coconut oil.
- This was a shift from July 1999 when refined coconut oil, instead of crude, was the bulk (77%) of coconut oil export earnings.
Exports of Petroleum Products valued at $38.67 million went up by 255.8 percent from $10.87 million or an increase of $27.80 million.
- Petroleum Naphtha with a 56.8 percent share generated export earnings amounting to $21.95 million, which increased by 330.6 percent from $5.10 million a year back.
SHARE OF US MARKET FOR E&C DOWN TO 26.2 PERCENT
Exports of E&C to the United States amounted to $487.64 million which was 10.5 percent lower than $544.80 million last year. In terms of percentage share, the United States share also fell to 26.2 percent from 30.9 percent. Exports to Taiwan grew by 70.4 percent to $248.68 million from 145.98 million last year as its share rose to 13.3 percent from 8.3 percent. Singapore and Japan reported increases in shipments valued at $219.22 million and $203.61 million, respectively.

SHIPMENTS OF GARMENTS TO US REACH $209.31 MILLION
Accounting for 75.4 percent of the total export value of AACA, aggregate receipts from the United States amounted to $209.31 million which was 19.8 percent higher than $174.65 million last year.

US THE TOP MARKET OF COCONUT OIL
The US bought 65.5 percent of the total export of Coconut Oil valued at $37.61 million or a 109.4 percent increase from $17.96 million a year ago. Receipts from Netherlands also went up, by 380.5 percent, to $14.41 million with a share of 25.1 percent.

EXPORT OF PETROLEUM PRODUCTS TO JAPAN UP BY 207.3 PERCENT
Japan bought 43.8 percent of exports of Petroleum Products amounting to $16.94 million or 207.3 percent higher than $5.51 million last year. Sales to Singapore amounted to $11.29 million, which was 29.2 percent of the total.
