FINAL FOREIGN TRADE STATISTICS JANUARY to DECEMBER 2000 - 2002 (Final Report)
This report presents the final monthly statistics on imports, exports and the resulting balance of trade in goods (BOT-G) for the years 2000 to 2002.
Adjustments on the import data were based on the information generated from the Survey of Imported Raw Materials. The survey was a joint undertaking of the National Statistics Office and the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and covered the electronic industry, the dominant player in the Philippine’s foreign trade. Also considered were report documents which were received by the NSO after the cut-off dates.
Revisions on export figures were based on export documents which were received after the cut-off dates. Relatively small differences can be noted between the old and final export figures (Table 1).
Table 2 shows that for the period January to December 2002, the final value of total imports was adjusted upwards by US$1,850 million from US$33,576 million to US$35,427 million. As shown in Table 1, the final export figure was recorded at US$35,208 million from US$35,066 million. The resulting trade balance in goods amounted to a deficit of US$219 million, a decline from the old series of US$1,490 million surplus (Table 3). The highest monthly adjustment of imports was posted in August amounting to US$221 million and the lowest was in January at US$75 million. The biggest BOT-G surplus was recorded in January at US$541 million while the biggest deficit was in April at US$696 million .
During the three-year period, the highest annual adjustment was in 2001 at US$3,506 million. During the year, the lowest adjustment was US$170 million registered in October and the highest was recorded in January at US$559 million. BOT-G was highest in November at US$413 million and lowest in April at negative US$859 million.
In 2000, the total annual adjustment for imports was US$3,103 million. It ranged from a low of US$166 million in March to a high of US$423 million in October. A negative BOT-G was recorded for the months of January and April at US$184 million and US$61 million, respectively. The highest BOT-G was posted in December at US$878 million.
