Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT) and Non-FBT Items
(NCR and AONCR - October 2005)

  1. CPI of Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT): National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)

    The seasonally adjusted CPI of FBT in NCR and AONCR correspondingly increased to 123.3 and 126.7 in October from their respective September levels of 122.3 and 125.9.

    Higher demand for meat for the forthcoming observance of All Saints Day and All Souls Day raised its prices in many regions including NCR. In addition, the difficulty in catching fish due to unfavorable water conditions brought add ons on its prices. These seasonal factors slightly pulled up prices of FBT items in AONCR. However, these seasonal factors did not push up prices of FBT items in NCR relative to the expected trend.

    Measured a month ago, prices of seasonally adjusted CPI of FBT items in NCR remained at 0.8 percent in October. Meanwhile, price movements of seasonally adjusted CPI for FBT items in AONCR was at 0.6 percent, slightly higher than September’s 0.5 percent.

  2. CPI of Non-FBT items: National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)

The seasonally adjusted CPI of non-FBT items in NCR and AONCR posted respectively at 142.6 and 136.6 in October were higher than their corresponding levels of 141.8 and 135.7 in September. The on-going preparation for the holiday season resulted to higher production of selected goods during the month. This seasonal factor pushed down prices of non-FBT items in NCR. On the other hand, this seasonal factor did not raise prices of non-FBT items in AONCR.

The month-on-month inflation of the seasonally adjusted CPI for non-FBT items in NCR and AONCR respectively climbed to 0.6 percent and 0.7 percent in October from 0.4 percent and 0.5 percent in September.
