SEASONALLY ADJUSTED
CONSUMER PRICE INDEX

Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT) and Non-FBT Items
(NCR and AONCR - April 2006)

  1. CPI of Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT): National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)

The seasonally adjusted CPI of FBT items in NCR and AONCR correspondingly picked up to 126.0 and 131.0 in April from their respective March levels of 125.8 and 130.7.

Sufficient supply of fish due to the prevalence of favorable weather condition caused prices of fish in AONCR to decline during the month. In addition, this seasonal factor resulted to good production of eggs, thus prices of eggs went down in NCR markets. The abundant supply of fruits in season also brought down their prices in AONCR. All these seasonal factors generally pushed down prices of FBT items in NCR and AONCR relative to the expected trend.

The month-on-month inflation of seasonally adjusted CPI for FBT items in NCR and AONCR were recorded at 0.2 percent in April from -0.1 percent and 0.6 percent, respectively.

  2. CPI of Non-FBT items: National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)

The seasonally adjusted CPI of non-FBT items in NCR and AONCR posted at their corresponding April levels of 148.7 and 142.1 were higher than their respective March levels of 148.2 and 141.8. Prices of non-FBT items in NCR and AONCR were pulled down by the seasonal factors during the month.

Compared to March 2006, additions in the prices of seasonally adjusted CPI for non-FBT items in NCR and AONCR at 0.3 percent and 0.2 percent in April were slower than their last month’s rates of 0.8 percent and 0.5 percent.
