Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT) and Non-FBT Items
(NCR and AONCR - August 2009)


  1. CPI of Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT): National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)

    The seasonally adjusted CPI of FBT in NCR remained at its July level of 151.2 while that for AONCR moved up to 162.8 in August from 162.6 in July.

    Seasonal factors such as the bad weather conditions that were experienced in August pushed up prices of FBT items in two areas relative to the expected trend.

    The monthly rate of change of the seasonally adjusted CPI for FBT items in NCR remained stable as it registered a zero growth in August from -0.1 percent in July. Meanwhile prices of seasonally adjusted CPI for FBT items in AONCR picked up by 0.1 percent from -0.2 percent.

  2. CPI of Non-FBT items: National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)

The seasonally adjusted CPI of non-FBT items in NCR and AONCR posted at their corresponding August levels of 158.6 and 158.3 were higher than their respective July levels of 158.4 and 157.9. Seasonal factors such as the low demand of goods and services during the lean month of August raised prices of non-FBT items in NCR and AONCR relative to the expected trend.

Compared to last month, prices of the seasonally adjusted CPI for non-FBT items in NCR and AONCR respectively went up to 0.1 percent and 0.3 percent in August from their corresponding growth rates of -0.5 percent 0.1 percent.
