Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT) and Non-FBT Items
(NCR and AONCR - November 2009)

  1. CPI of Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT): National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)

The seasonally adjusted CPI of FBT items in NCR moved at its October level of 156.5 while that for AONCR, its level went up to 167.4 in November from 165.4 last month.

The effects of the slight weather disturbances experienced in some regions of the country during the month did not push up prices of FBT items in NCR and AONCR relative to the expected trend.

Measured a month ago, prices of seasonally adjusted CPI for FBT items in NCR registered a zero growth in November from 2.4 percent in October. Meanwhile, prices of seasonally adjusted CPI for FBT items in AONCR rose to 1.2 percent in November from 1.0 percent in October.

  2. CPI of Non-FBT items: National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)

The seasonally adjusted CPI of non-FBT items in NCR and AONCR correspondingly picked up to 161.7 and 160.3 from their respective previous month’s levels of 160.5 and 159.7.

Seasonal factors such as bigger volumes of production of selected goods in preparation for the holiday season pushed down prices of non-FBT items in NCR. This seasonal factor however did not pull down prices of non-FBT items in AONCR relative to the expected trend.

The monthly rate of change of the seasonally adjusted CPI for non-FBT items in NCR increased to 0.7 percent from 0.4 percent while that for AONCR remained at 0.4 percent.
