- CPI of Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT): National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)
The seasonally adjusted CPI of FBT items in NCR was registered higher at 154.8 in June compared to its May level of 154.7 while that in AONCR remained at its previous month’s level of 168.7.
The effect of the climate change experienced during the month affected the production of vegetables in the country. Likewise, the lean month in growing selected vegetables limited their supply in the markets. Price increases in off-season fruits were also seen in NCR. Thus, the general price movements of FBT items in NCR and AONCR were pushed up by these seasonal factors relative to the expected trend.
On a monthly basis, prices of the seasonally adjusted CPI for FBT items in NCR went up to 0.1 percent in June from zero growth in May. Meanwhile, prices of these items in AONCR recorded a zero growth in June from -0.2 percent last month.
The seasonally adjusted CPI of non-FBT items in NCR and AONCR correspondingly went down to 167.6 and 164.5 in June from their respective previous month’s levels of 168.1 and 165.3.
The tuition fee hike observed during the start of the school year observed in many regions including NCR raised prices of non-FBT items relative to the expected trend. Higher demand for school supplies brought about by the opening of classes also contributed to the uptrend.
Measured a month ago, prices of the seasonally adjusted CPI for non- FBT items in NCR continued to post a negative rate of -0.3 percent in June from -1.4 percent. Similarly, prices of the seasonally adjusted CPI of FBT items in AONCR dropped to -0.5 percent from 0.2 percent last month.
