The seasonally adjusted CPI of FBT items in NCR moved up to 160.1 in June from 159.9 in May while in AONCR, its level went down to 175.8 from 176.1. The heavy rains and weather disturbances experienced during the month caused lower supply of vegetables in the wet markets in NCR. Price increases in selected off-season fruits were likewise noticed in the area. Moreover, a shift in consumers preference for meat raised its prices in NCR and some provinces in AONCR. These seasonal factors pushed up the general movements of prices of FBT items in NCR and AONCR relative to the expected trend. Add-ons in the prices of seasonally adjusted CPI for FBT items in NCR picked up to 0.1 percent in June, the same rate posted in May. Meanwhile, the monthly rate of change of the seasonally adjusted CPI for FBT items in AONCR was noted at -0.2 percent. The seasonally adjusted CPI of non-FBT items in NCR and AONCR correspondingly advanced to 176.4 and 173.5 in June from their respective last months levels of 175.9 and 173.1. The tuition fee hike observed during the start of the school year in many regions including NCR pushed prices of non-FBT items relative to the expected trend. Higher demand for school supplies brought about by the opening of classes also contributed to the uptrend. On a monthly basis, prices of the seasonally adjusted CPI for FBT items in NCR rose to 0.3 percent in June from -0.1 percent in May. Meanwhile, prices of these items in AONCR went up at a slower rate of 0.2 percent in June from an increase of 0.5 percent last month. For technical notes and
