Number of Farms Increased in 2002

In 2002, Davao Region reported 300 thousand farms for agricultural use, covering 758.3 thousand hectares. The region�s total agricultural land area comprised 33.2 percent of the region�s total land area. Although the number of farms was 12.3 percent higher than the 267.2 thousand farms reported in 1991, the total farm area decreased by 4.7 percent, or from 795.9 thousand hectares in 1991 to 758.3 thousand hectares in 2002. The increase in the region�s number of farms and the decrease in its farm area contributed to the decrease of the regional average farm size of 2.5 hectares per farm, from three hectares per farm in 1991.
