Population of Batangas reached 2.4 Million (Results from the 2010 Census of Population and Housing)

Based on the 2010 Census of Population and Housing (CPH), the province of Batangas posted a total population of 2,377,395 persons as of May 1, 2010. This is larger by 472,047 persons compared to its total population of 1,905,348 persons counted in the 2000 CPH. The increase in the population count from 2000 to 2010 translated to an average annual population growth rate (PGR) of 2.24 percent. This is lower than the 2.58 percent annual PGR of the province between the census years 1990 and 2000.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The level of urbanization in 2010 or the proportion of urban population to the total population was 45.3 percent. This means that of the 92.3 million population in the Philippines in 2010, 41.9 million lived in areas classified as urban (Table A). The rural population or those who lived in areas classified as rural numbered 50.5 million and accounted for 54.7 percent of the total population.
  • In 2007, the level of urbanization was 42.4 percent (Table A).
