A Review of the Agricultural Sector in SOCCSKSARGEN

In 2002, SOCCSKSARGEN posted 330.6 thousand farms for agricultural use, covering 775.3 thousand hectares. The region's total agricultural land area comprised 39.9 percent of the region's total land area. As the number of farms increased by 25.2 percent over the 264.1 thousand farms reported in 1991, the average farm size decreased from 2.8 hectares per farm to 2.3 hectares per farm. Generally, the increase in the number of agricultural farms and reduction in the farm size could be partly attributed to the distribution of land through the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) of the government.

A Review of the Agriculture Sector in Western Mindanao Region

In 2002, Western Mindanao registered 252.7 thousand farms for agricultural use, covering 785.3 thousand hectares. The region's total agricultural land area comprised almost half (45.2 percent) of the region's total land area. As a result of the increase in the number of farms and area planted by 7.2 percent and 16.2 percent, respectively over the 1991 estimates, the average farm size increased from 2.87 hectares per farm in 1991 to 3.11 hectares per farm in 2002.

A Review of the Agriculture Sector in Eastern Visayas

In 2002, Eastern Visayas registered 330.8 thousand farms for agricultural use, covering 723 thousand hectares. The region's total agricultural land area comprised 32.5 percent of the region's total land area. As the number of farms in the region increased by 2.9 percent and the corresponding farm area by 3.9 percent over the 1991 estimates, the average farm size slightly increased, from 2.16 hectares per farm in 1991 to 2.19 hectares per farm in 2002.

A Review of the Agriculture Sector in Central Visayas

In 2002, Central Visayas registered 430.0 thousand farms for agricultural use, covering 522.4 thousand hectares. The region's total agricultural land area comprised 31.6 percent of the region's total land area. The number of farms in Central Visayas rose slightly by 1.2 percent from 424.8 thousand farms reported in 1991. However, the region,s farm area decreased by 5.0 percent from 549.9 thousand hectares recorded in 1991. As a result, the average farm size decreased from 1.29 hectares per farm in 1991 to 1.21 hectares per farm in 2002. The region registered an average of 1.9 parcels per farm in 2002. Details showed that the number and area of farms had decreased in Bohol and Cebu and had increased in Negros Oriental and Siquijor.

A Review of the Agriculture Sector in Western Visayas

The number of agricultural farms in Western Visayas had increased from 411.6 thousand farms in 1991 to 429.5 thousand farms in 2002. On the other hand, the farm area declined from 754.4 thousand hectares to 666.9 thousand hectares. Agricultural land area accounted for 32.4 percent of the region's total land area. The reduction in the farm area and increase in the number of farms posted a decrease in the average farm size from 1.8 hectares per farm in 1991 to 1.6 hectares per farm in 2002.
