2010 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) - Transport and Storage : Final Results

Support activities for transportation industry dominates Transport and Storage Sector

According to the final results of the 2010 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI), there were 2,891 establishments engaged in Transport and Storage sector. Support activities for transportation topped the sector with 1,433 establishments or 49.6 percent. Majority of establishments under this industry group were engaged in freight forwarding services and customs brokerage (ship and aircraft) comprising 78.4 percent of the total establishments in the industry group. This was followed by other land transport and transport via buses industries with 639 establishments (22.1%) and 303 establishments (10.5%), respectively. Figure 1 shows the percent distribution of establishments by industry group in 2010.

Retail sale of other goods in specialized stores dominates among industries

Final results of the 2010 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) showed that a total of 57,908 establishments were engaged in Wholesale and Retail Trade; Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles. Of the total, establishments with total employment of less than 20 represented 91.8 percent (53,131) while the remaining 8.2 percent (4,777) for establishments with total employment of more than 20.

About 3 out of 10 establishments were engaged in Retail sale of other goods in specialized stores. Figure 1 shows the percentage distribution for wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles establishments by industry group.

Restaurants and mobile food service activities dominate Accommodation and Food Service Activities section

Based on the final results of the 2010 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) conducted nationwide, with 2010 as the reference year, the Philippines had a total of 14,937 establishments engaged in Accommodation and Food Service Activities. A total of 11,208 establishments or 75.0 percent had a total employment (TE) of less than 20 while 3,729 or 25.0 percent had TE of 20 and over.

Real estate activities with own or leased property dominates the sector

Final results of the 2010 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) showed that a total of 2,873 establishments were engaged in real estate activities. About 86.8 percent (2,493) were establishments with total employment of less than 20 while 13.2 percent (380) were establishments with total employment of 20 and over.

About 8 out of 10 establishments were engaged in real estate activities with own or leased property. Figure 1 shows the percentage distribution for all real estate activities establishments by industry group

Personal services for wellness, except sports activities industry dominates other service activities section

From the preliminary results of the 2010 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry, the Philippines had a total of 282 establishments with total employment (TE) of 20 and over engaged in Other Service Activities. Personal services for wellness, except sports activities topped the sector with 212 establishments or 75.2 percent. This was followed by Repair of personal and household goods industry with 22 establishments (7.8%). Figure 1 shows the percent distribution of establishments by industry group in 2010.
