2010 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) - Arts, Entertainment and Recreation for Establishments with Total Employment of 20 and Over : Preliminary Results

Majority of establishments are engaged in Other amusement and recreation activities, n.e.c.

Based on the preliminary results of the 2010 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry conducted nationwide, with 2010 as the reference year, the Philippines had a total of 193 establishments with total employment (TE) of 20 and over engaged in Arts, Entertainment and Recreation. As shown in Figure 1, Other amusement and recreation activities, n.e.c. garnered the highest number of establishments at 80 (41.4%). The Sports activities ranked second with 54 (28.0%). Libraries, archives, museums and other cultural activities on the other hand, recorded the lowest number of establishments with only 9 (4.7%).

Hospital activities lead the section

Preliminary results of the 2010 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry showed that a total of 730 establishments with total employment (TE) of 20 and over were engaged in Human Health and Social Activities.

As shown in Table 1, hospital activities garnered the highest number of establishments with 512 (70.1%). Medical and dental activities ranked far second with 174 (23.8 %), followed by other social work activities without accommodation, n.e.c. with 21 or 2.9 percent. On the other hand, other human health activities recorded the lowest number with 4 (0.5%). Figure 1 shows the percent distribution of establishments by industry group.

Majority of establishments are engaged in secondary/high school education

The 2010 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) covered a total of 3,012 establishments with total employment of 20 and over for Private Education.

As shown in Table 1, establishments involved in secondary/high school education recorded the biggest number, accounting for 1,248 or 41.4 percent of the total. Higher education ranked second with 1,214 establishments (40.3%) while primary/elementary education followed with 309 establishments (10.3%). Other education services recorded the least number with 98 establishments (3.3%). Figure 1 shows the distribution of Private Education establishments by industry group.

Private Security Activities industry leads the sector

Preliminary results of the 2010 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry showed that a total of 1,331 establishments with total employment of 20 and over were engaged in Administrative and Support Service Activities.

Private security acivities comprised about 464 (34.9 percent) of the total number of establishments. This was followed by establishments engaged in activities of employment placement agencies ranked second with 347 (26.1 percent). Ranked third are establishments engaged in call center activities with 259 (19. 5%). This was followed by cleaning activities, travel agency and tour operator activities and business support activities with 6.5 percent, 4.2 percent and 3.2 percent respectively. Other sectors contributed about 5.6 percent to the total. (See Figure 1)

Restaurants and mobile food service activities dominate Accommodation and Food Service Activities section

Based on the preliminary results of the 2010 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) conducted nationwide, with 2010 as the reference year, the Philippines had a total of 3,728 establishments with total employment (TE) of 20 and over engaged in Accommodation and Food Service Activities. Figure 1 shows that restaurants and mobile food service activities garnered the highest number of establishments at 2,906 (78.0%) followed by short term accommodation activities with 691 establishments or 18.5 percent. Other accommodation recorded the lowest number of establishments with 7 or 0.2 percent only. (Table 1)
