Primer on the 2012 Census of Philippine Business and Industry

The 2012 Census of Philippine Business and Industry (CPBI) is one of the designated statistical activities undertaken by the National Statistics Office which aims to collect and generate information on the performance, levels, structure and trends of economic activities of the formal sector in the entire country for the year 2012. The 2012 CPBI is the 15th in the series of economic censuses conducted in the Philippines. The last economic census was the 2006 CPBI conducted in 2007.

2000 Census of Philippine Business and Industry (CPBI) - Manufacturing With Average Total Employment of 20 and Over : Final Results

A total of 7,450 manufacturing establishments with average total employment (ATE) of 20 or more workers were covered in the 2000 Census of Philippine Business and Industry with 1999 as the reference year. Food except beverages dominated the sector with 1,299 establishments or 17.4 percent of the total. Wearing apparel ranked second, with 931 establishments (12.5 percent) while chemical products placed third accounting for 446 establishments (6.0 percent).

Majority of establishments were engaged in retail trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles, repair of personal and household goods

A total of 374,559 establishments engaged in wholesale and retail trade; sale, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles, motorcycles and repair of personal and household goods sector were reported in the 2000 Census of Philippine Business and Industry (CPBI). Of the total, 98.2 percent or 367, 715 establishments had an average total employment (ATE) of less than 20 and only 1.8 percent or 6,844 were large establishments with ATE of 20 and over. Restaurants, bars, canteens and other eating and drinking places accounted for majority of establishments

A total of 88,171 hotels, restaurants and similar establishments nationwide were reported in the 2000 Census of Philippine Business and Industry (CPBI) of which 85,333 or 96.78 percent had an average total employment (ATE) of less than 20. The remaining 2,838 or 3.22 percent had ATE 20 and over, See Table 1 for the summary statistics of all hotel and restaurant establishments.

Supporting auxiliary transport activities dominate the transport, storage and communications sector

There were 10,462 establishments engaged in transport, storage and communications based on the 2000 Census of Philippine Business and Industry (CPBI). Supporting auxiliary transport activities (PSIC I63) had the largest number of establishments accounting for 42.7 percent (4,466) of the total in the sector. Land transport; transport via pipelines comprised the second largest group with 3,290 establishments (31.4 percent).
