2000 Census of Philippine Business and Industry (CPBI) - Economy-wide with Average Total Employment of 20 and Over : Final Results

Manufacturing Sector: Highest number of establishments in 1999

Based on the 2000 Census of Philippine Business and Industry (CPBI) conducted nationwide, with 1999 as the reference period, the Philippines had a total of 28,245 establishments in 1999, which employed an average of 20 and more workers (Table 1). As shown in Figure 1, the Manufacturing Sector (Sector D) garnered the highest number of establishments 7,450 (26.4 percent). The Wholesale and Retail Trade (Sector G) ranked second with 6,842 (24.2 percent). The Mining and Quarrying, on the other hand, recorded the lowest number of establishments with only 74 (0.3 percent).

Table 1 shows the summary statistics for establishments with ATE of 20 and over for the total Philippines and by sector based on the preliminary results of the 2006 CPBI. Comparative data from the 1999 CPBI and the 2001 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI), 2003 ASPBI and 2005 ASPBI are also presented.

Based on the preliminary results of the 2006 Census of Philippine Business and Industry conducted nationwide, with 2006 as the reference year, the Philippines had a total of 544 establishments with average total employment (ATE) of 20 and over engaged in other community, social and personal service activities. As shown in Figure 1, other service activities garnered the highest number of establishments at 190 (34.9%). The sporting and other recreational activities ranked second with 170 (31.3%). Sewage and refuse disposal, sanitation and similar activities on the other hand, recorded the lowest number of establishments with only 9.

Based on the preliminary results of the 2006 Census of Philippine Business and Industry conducted nationwide, with 2006 as the reference year, the Philippines had a total of 628 establishments with average total employment (ATE) of 20 and over engaged in health and social work. As shown in Figure 1, hospital activities and medical and dental practices (N851) garnered the highest number of establishments at 601 (95.7 %). The remaining 4.3 percent or 27 establishments were engaged in social work activities (N853).

2006 Census of Philippine Business and Industry (CPBI) - Private Education Sector for Establishments with Average Total Employment (ATE) of 20 and Over : Preliminary Results

Based on the preliminary results of the 2006 Census of Philippine Business and Industry conducted nationwide, with 2006 as the reference year, the Philippines had a total of 2,549 establishments with average total employment (ATE) of 20 and over engaged in private education. As shown in Figure 1, private secondary education garnered the highest number of establishments at 1,038 (40.7%). The private higher education ranked second with 878 (34.5%). Private adult and other education, on the other hand, recorded the lowest number of establishments with only 57 or 2.2 percent.
