Retail Price Index of Selected Construction Materials in the National Capital Region (2000=100) : June 2012

The monthly change in the retail price index of selected construction materials in (NCR) picked up to 1.9 percent in June from -0.1 percent in May. This resulted from the upward movements in carpentry and painting materials indices at 0.1 percent from -0.2 percent and -0.1 percent, respectively; electrical materials index, 5.3 percent from zero growth; masonry materials index, 3.8 percent from 0.1 percent; and tinsmithry materials index, 0.3 percent from -0.3 percent.

On a monthly basis, the retail price index of selected construction materials in NCR posted a zero growth in December from -0.7 percent in November. Higher prices of masonry and plumbing materials were offsetted by the price declines in carpentry materials, painting materials and related compounds and miscellaneous construction materials. Price movement of electrical materials index eased to 0.1 percent from 0.6 percent while that for tinsmithry materials remained stable during the month.

On a monthly basis, the retail price index of selected construction materials in NCR dropped to -0.7 percent in November from 0.1 percent in October. This can be attributed to the decreases of the indexes of carpentry materials at -1.2 percent in November from 0.4 percent in October and miscellaneous construction materials, -1.9 percent from -0.3 percent. The same rate was posted in masonry materials at -0.1 percent. In addition, prices of electrical materials eased to 0.6 percent from 1.1 percent. Prices of painting materials and related compounds generally remained stable as the group's index posted a zero growth. The rest of the commodity groups have higher monthly growth rates.

The month-on-month growth rate of the retail prices of selected construction materials in NCR went up at a slower pace of 0.1 percent in October from 0.3 percent in September. This was due to the decreases in the indexes of masonry materials at -0.1 percent in October from 0.2 percent in September; tinsmithry materials, -0.4 percent from 0.4 percent; and miscellaneous construction materials, -0.3 percent from 2.8 percent. On the other hand, higher monthly growth rates were seen in the indexes of carpentry materials at 0.4 percent from -0.7 percent; electrical materials, 1.1 percent from 0.9 percent; and painting materials and related compounds and plumbing materials, 0.1 percent from their respective previous month's rates of zero growth and -0.2 percent.

The month-on-month growth rate of the retail prices of selected construction materials in NCR went up at a slower pace of 0.3 percent in September from 0.4 in August. Prices of carpentry materials decreased to -0.7 percent in September from 0.3 percent in August. Moreover, price increases in electrical materials and masonry materials index correspondingly eased to 0.9 percent and 0.2 percent from 2.0 percent and 0.3 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, price increments in tinsmithry and miscellaneous construction materials index were higher at 0.4 percent and 2.8 percent, respectively from their corresponding last monthҳ rates of zero growth and 0.1 percent. Prices of painting materials and related compounds generally remained stable as the groupҳ index posted a zero growth.
