Retail Price Index of Selected Construction Materials in the National Capital Region (1978=100) : August 2009

The month-on-month growth rate of the retail prices of selected construction materials in NCR went up by 0.4 percent in August from -0.6 percent in July. Except for tinsmithry materials whose index remained stable as it posted a zero growth rate, all the other commodity groups recorded higher monthly growth rates. A higher growth was noted in carpentry and masonry materials index at 0.3 percent in August from their respective rates of -1.4 percent and zero growth in July; electrical materials, 2.0 percent from 0.3 percent; painting materials and related compounds, 0.9 percent from -0.3 percent; plumbing materials, 1.5 percent from 0.2 percent; and miscellaneous construction materials, 0.1 percent from -0.3 percent.

On a monthly basis, the Retail Price Index of Selected Construction Materials in NCR dropped to -0.6 percent in July from 0.2 percent in June. This can be attributed to the decreases in the indexes of carpentry materials and masonry materials at -1.4 percent and zero growth from their last month's rates of 0.8 percent and 0.2 percent, respectively. The miscellaneous construction materials and the painting materials and related compounds indices also continued to post a negative rate of -0.3 percent from their respective previous month's rates of -0.6 percent and -0.3 percent. The rest of the commodity groups have higher monthly growth rates.

On a monthly basis, the Retail Price Index of Selected Construction Materials in NCR slightly went up to 0.2 percent in June from -0.7 percent in May. A higher price increase was noted in carpentry materials index at 0.8 percent in June from -1.0 percent in May and masonry materials index at 0.2 percent from 0.1 percent. Price increments in electrical materials and plumbing materials indices remained stable as their index posted zero growth rates while the rest of the commodity groups recorded negative growth rates.

On a monthly basis, the Retail Price Index of Selected Construction Materials in NCR continued to register a negative rate of -0.7 percent in May from -0.3 percent in April. This was due the declines in the indexes of carpentry materials at -1.0 percent in May from zero growth in April; plumbing materials, -0.3 percent from 0.2 percent; tinsmithry materials, -0.1 percent from zero growth and miscellaneous construction materials, -1.6 percent from -1.8 percent. On the other hand, higher monthly growth rates were seen in the indexes of electrical, masonry and painting materials and related compounds at 0.2 percent, 0.1 percent and 0.5 percent, respectively from their last month�s corresponding rates of -0.9 percent, zero growth and -0.2 percent.

On a monthly basis, the Retail Price Index of Selected Construction Materials in NCR went up at a slower rate of 0.1 percent in April from 0.6 percent in March. This was attributed mainly to the declines in the indexes of electrical materials and miscellaneous construction materials at -1.1 percent and -1.8 percent from their respective last month's rates of 1.0 percent and -1.6 percent. Moreover, a slower price gain was noted in carpentry materials at 0.7 percent from 2.0 percent. Prices of masonry materials and tinsmithry materials remained stable as their group's indexes registered zero growth from 0.2 percent while the rest of the commodity groups posted higher monthly growth rates.
