Retail Price Index of Selected Construction Materials in the National Capital Region (1978=100) : May 2008

The month-on-month growth rate of the retail prices of selected construction materials in NCR went up to 3.1 percent in May from 1.5 in April. Increments in the prices of plumbing materials were higher at 0.8 percent in May from 0.4 percent in April; tinsmithry materials, 4.5 percent from 0.3 percent; and miscellaneous construction materials, 12.3 percent from 2.3 percent. The rest of the commodity groups however posted slower monthly growth rates.

The month-on-month growth rate in prices of selected construction materials in NCR went up at a slower rate of 1.5 percent in April from 2.5 percent in March. The monthly price increase in the miscellaneous construction materials index slowed down to 2.3 percent in April from 11.7 percent in March. On the other hand, monthly growth rates in the indices of carpentry materials and painting materials and related compounds were correspondingly higher at 1.1 percent in April from their respective last monthҳ rates of 0.3 percent and 0.2 percent in March; electrical materials index, 1.6 percent from 0.1 percent; masonry materials index, 2.1 percent from 0.8 percent; plumbing materials index, 0.4 percent from 0.2 percent; and tinsmithry materials index, 0.3 percent from zero growth.

The month-on-month growth rate of selected construction materials in NCR went up to 2.5 percent in March from 0.5 percent in February. Higher monthly growth rates were noticed in carpentry materials at 0.3 percent in March from 0.2 percent in February; painting materials and related compounds, 0.2 percent from -0.2 percent; and miscellaneous construction materials, 11.7 percent from 0.8 percent. Price gain in plumbing materials index at 0.2 percent was the same rate posted last month while prices for tinsmithry materials remained stable as the group's index registered a zero growth from 0.2 percent. The rest of the commodity groups recorded slower positive monthly price adjustments.

Price hikes in selected construction materials in NCR remained at 0.5 percent in February. Higher price increments were correspondingly noted in masonry materials and plumbing materials at 0.9 percent and 0.2 percent in February from their respective January rates of 0.2 percent and zero growth. On the other hand, price increase in electrical materials was slower at 1.9 percent from 2.1 percent; tinsmithry materials, 0.2 percent from 0.5 percent; and miscellaneous construction materials, 0.8 percent from 1.3 percent. Prices of painting materials and related compounds decreased by -0.2 percent from 2.3 percent while price uptick in carpentry materials was still at its previous month's rate of 0.2 percent.

The retail prices of selected construction materials in NCR went up to 0.5 percent in January compared to zero growth in December. Prices of all the construction materials were registered upward movements during the month except for plumbing materials whose index posted a zero growth from 0.2 percent. Prices of carpentry materials and masonry materials increased by 0.2 percent in January from their respective December rates of zero growth and 0.1 percent; electrical materials, 2.1 percent from -0.1 percent; painting materials and related compounds, 2.3 percent from -0.4 percent; tinsmithry materials, 0.5 percent from 0.1 percent; and miscellaneous construction materials, 1.3 percent from -0.3 percent.
