Construction Statistics from Approved Building Permits : Third Quarter 2011 (Preliminary Results)

Number of new construction increases by 5.4 percent

A total count of 25,255 new construction projects from approved building permits in the country were reported for the third quarter of 2011. This number registered an increase of 5.4 percent compared to 23,970 construction projects over the same period in 2010.

Residential type building recorded a total of 18,154 in the third quarter of 2011. This reflects a 3.0 percent growth from the third quarter of 2010 with 17,618 residential constructions. Likewise, non-residential construction for the period grew 7.6 percent to 3,377 from 3,138 during the same quarter of 2010.

New construction projects post 27,525 in the second quarter

The new construction projects from approved building permits nationwide totaled to 27,525 during the second quarter of 2011, representing a decrease of 3.0 percent compared with 28,389 construction projects registered over the same period in 2010.

Residential type building construction during the second quarter of 2011 recorded a total of 19,995, down by 9.2 percent from last year�s total residential construction of 22,033. On the other hand, non-residential construction for the period grew 12.9 percent to 3,409 from 3,020 during the same quarter of 2010.

Approved applications for additions, alterations and repairs of existing structures with a combined total of 4,121 increased by 23.5 percent from 3,336 approved applications recorded during the same quarter of 2010. Figure 1 compares the number of approved building permits by type of construction for the second quarters of 2010 and 2011.

Construction projects post 28,347 in the first quarter

The country's construction projects from approved building permits summed up to 28,347 during the first quarter of 2011. This reflects a 5.5 percent annual decrease from 29,992 constructions projects during the same period in 2010.

Residential type building in the first quarter of 2011 recorded a total of 20,784, down by 11.9 percent than last year's total residential construction of 23,586. On the other hand, non-residential construction for the period grew 17.4 percent to 3,495 from 2,978 during the same quarter of 2010.

Furthermore, combined approved building permits for additions, alterations and repairs with a total of 4,068 rose by 18.7 percent from 3,428 approved building permits recorded during the same quarter of 2010. Figure 1 compares the number of approved building permits by type of construction for the first quarters of 2010 and 2011.

Construction Statistics from Approved Building Permits : Fourth Quarter 2010 (Preliminary Results)

Number of building construction projects nationwide posts 22,879

The total number of construction projects from approved building permits during the fourth quarter of 2010 was recorded at 22,879, reflecting a 24.6 percent drop from 30,325 during the same period in 2009.

Bulk of approved building permits was issued for the construction of residential buildings numbering 16,697. This figure is lower by 30.5 percent from 24,027 residential buildings reported during the fourth quarter of 2009. On the other hand, non-residential construction went up by 10.4 percent to 3,106 from 2,813 during the same period of last year.

Number of construction projects drops by 9.2 percent

The total number of building construction projects all over the country was recorded at 23,970 during the third quarter of 2010, representing 9.2 percent drop from the 26,397 construction projects recorded during the same period of 2009.

Residential type building with 17,618 new constructions went down by 9.9 percent from 19,543 during the same quarter of 2009 while non-residential constructions went up slightly by 1.1 percent to 3,138 from 3,103 during the same period of last year.
