External Trade Performance : December 2009

Total external trade in goods for January to December 2009 reached $81.338 billion, a 23.1 percent decline from $105.824 billion registered during the same month in 2008. Total imports posted a 24.2 percent annual decrease from $56.746 billion to $43.004 billion. Similarly, total exports fell by 21.9 percent from $49.078 billion in January to December of 2008 to $38.335 billion. Thus, the balance of trade in goods (BOT-G) for the Philippines posted a deficit of $4.669 billion during the 12-month period in 2009, a value less than the $7.669 billion deficit in the same 12-month period last year.

External Trade Performance : February 2012

Total external trade in goods for February 2012 reached $9.423 billion, representing a 9.2 percent increase from $8.626 billion recorded during the same month in 2011. This was due to the 4.9 percent upward trend of total imports to $4.993 billion from $4.761 billion in February 2011. On the other hand, exports showed a 14.6 percent increment to $4.430 billion from $3.865 billion in February 2011. Thus, the balance of trade in goods (BOT-G) for the Philippines in February 2012 registered a deficit of $562 million from $896 million deficit in the same period last year.

External Trade Performance : February 2009

Total external trade in goods for February 2009 reached $5.565 billion, representing a 35.3 percent decline from $8.603 billion recorded during the same month in 2008. This was due to the 31.9 percent decrease of total imports to $3.059 billion from $4.491 billion in February 2008. The same was true for exports where a 39.0 percent decrease was observed to $2.506 billion from $4.112 billion in February 2008. Thus, the balance of trade in goods (BOT-G) for the Philippines in February 2009 registered a $552 million deficit from $379 million deficit in the same period last year.

External Trade Performance : January 2009

Total external trade in goods for January 2009 reached $5.781 billion, representing a 37.3 percent decline from $9.224 billion recorded during the same month in 2008. This was due to the 34.5 percent decrease of total imports to $3.270 billion from $4.993 billion in January 2008. The same was true for exports where a 40.6 percent decrease was observed to $2.511 billion from $4.231 billion in January 2008. Thus, the balance of trade in goods (BOT-G) for the Philippines in January 2009 registered a $759.00 million deficit from $762 million deficit in same period last year.

External Trade Performance : December 2010

Total external trade in goods for January to December 2010 reached $106.134 billion, a 30.2 percent increment from $81.527 billion registered during the same period in 2009. Total imports posted a 26.9 percent annual increase to $54.702 billion from $43.092 billion. Similarly, an increase of 33.8 percent for merchandise exports was noted to $51.432 billion in January to December of 2010 from $38.436 billion during the same period in 2009. Thus, the balance of trade in goods (BOT-G) for the Philippines registered a deficit of $3.270 billion in 2010, a value lower than the $4.656 billion deficit in 2009.
