Merchandise Export Performance : March 2010

Export earnings in March 2010 amounted to $4.176 billion, registering a double-digit growth of 43.7 percent from it�s year ago level of $2.907 billion. The same is true with it�s previous month level which rose by 17.0 percent from $3.570 billion in February 2010. Aggregate merchandise exports for the first quarter of 2010 also showed an increase of 42.9 percent to $11.326 billion from $7.926 billion posted during the same three-month period in 2009.

External Trade Performance : February 2010

Total external trade in goods for the first two months of 2010 (January to February) reached $15.340 billion, a 35.2 percent increment from $11.348 billion registered during the same period in 2009. Total imports posted a 29.4 percent annual increase to $8.191 billion from $6.329 billion. Similarly, total exports was up by 42.4 percent to $7.150 billion in January to February of 2010 from $5.019 billion during the same period in 2009. Thus, the balance of trade in goods (BOT-G) for the Philippines posted a deficit of $1.041 billion during the 2-month period in 2010, a value less than the $1.309 billion deficit in the same 2-month period last year.

External Trade Performance : January 2010

Total external trade in goods for January 2010 reached $7.841 billion, representing a 35.6 percent increase from $5.781 billion recorded during the same month in 2009. This was due to the 30.3 percent upward trend of total imports to $4.261 billion from $3.270 billion in January 2009. The same was true for exports where a 42.5 percent increment was observed to $3.579 billion from $2.511 billion in January 2009. Thus, the balance of trade in goods (BOT-G) for the Philippines in January 2010 registered a lower deficit of $682.00 million from $759.00 million deficit in same period last year.

Merchandise Export Performance : February 2010

Export earnings in February 2010 amounted to $3.567 billion, registering a double-digit growth of 42.3 percent from it�s year ago level of $2.506 billion. However, on a monthly basis, it slightly declined by 0.4 percent from $3.579 billion in January 2010. Aggregate merchandise exports for the first two months of 2010, on the other hand, showed an increase of 42.4 percent from $5.017 billion to $7.146 billion posted during the same two-month period in 2009.
