2010 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) - Human Health and Social Work Activities : Final Results

Medical and dental practices lead the section

The final results of the 2010 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) conducted nationwide for Human health and social work activities reported a total of 4,451 establishments. As shown in Figure 1, medical and dental practices activities garnered the highest number of establishments at 3,342 (75.1%). This was followed by establishments engaged in hospital activities with 871 (19.6%). Ranked third are the combined establishments engaged in social work activities without accommodation with 103 (2.3%). The rest of the activities contributed about 3.0 percent of the total.

Hospital activities lead the section

Preliminary results of the 2010 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry showed that a total of 730 establishments with total employment (TE) of 20 and over were engaged in Human Health and Social Activities.

As shown in Table 1, hospital activities garnered the highest number of establishments with 512 (70.1%). Medical and dental activities ranked far second with 174 (23.8 %), followed by other social work activities without accommodation, n.e.c. with 21 or 2.9 percent. On the other hand, other human health activities recorded the lowest number with 4 (0.5%). Figure 1 shows the percent distribution of establishments by industry group.

The 2003 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) covered a total of 27,646 health and social work establishments. Of the total, 27,187 or 98.3 percent had an average total employment (ATE) of less than 20, while only 459 establishments or 1.7 percent had ATE of more than 20. The 2002 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) covered a total of 27,720 health and social work establishments. Of the total, 27,241 or 98.3 percent had an average total employment (ATE) of less than 20, while only 479 establishments or 1.7 percent had ATE of 20 or more. Majority of establishments are involved in hospital activities and medical and dental practices

There were 27,822 health and social work establishments covered by the 2000 Census of Philippine Business and Industry (CPBI). Most of these establishments, 27, 254 or 97.96 percent had an average total employment (ATE) of less than 20 while only 568 or 2.04 percent had ATE of more than 20. See Table 1 for summary statistics for all health and social work establishments.

Establishments involved in hospital activities and medical and dental practices (PSIC N851) comprised the biggest number with 27,285 or 98.07 percent of the total count for the sector. The rest were engaged in veterinary activities (PSIC N852) with 408 and social work activities (PSIC N853) with 129.

On the regional level, the National Capital Region (NCR) accounted for 9,494 or 34.12 percent of the total establishment count while Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) had the least number with 50 or a mere 0.18 percent. Figure 1 shows the distribution of health and social work establishments by region.
