2002 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) - Hotels and Restaurants : Preliminary Results

Restaurants, bars, canteens and other eating and drinking places dominated the hotels and restaurants sector

The 2002 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (reference year - 2001) covered a total of 87,924 hotel and restaurant establishments. Of the total figure, 85,568 establishments or 97.3 percent had an average total employment (ATE) of less than 20. Only 2,356 establishments or 2.7 percent had an average total employment of 20 and over. (Tables 1-3)

Establishments engaged in restaurants, bars, canteens and other eating and drinking places dominated the sector with 84,125 or 95.9 percent of the total. On the other hand, 4.1 percent or 3,638 were hotels, camping sites and other provisions of short-stay accommodation. Figure 1 displays the distribution of hotel and restaurant establishments by industry group.

Restaurants, bars, canteens and other eating and drinking places accounted for majority of establishments

A total of 88,171 hotels, restaurants and similar establishments nationwide were reported in the 2000 Census of Philippine Business and Industry (CPBI) of which 85,333 or 96.78 percent had an average total employment (ATE) of less than 20. The remaining 2,838 or 3.22 percent had ATE 20 and over, See Table 1 for the summary statistics of all hotel and restaurant establishments.

2005 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) - Hotels and Restaurants : Preliminary Results

The 2005 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) covered a total of 95,812 hotel and restaurant establishments. Of the total, 92,198 establishments or 96.2 percent had an average total employment (ATE) of less than 20, while only 3,614 establishments or 3.8 percent had ATE of more than 20. (See Tables 1 to 3.)
