External Trade Performance : July 2000

Total external trade in goods for January to July 2000 amounted to $38.846 billion which was 6.2 percent higher than $36.562 billion a year ago. Merchandise exports valued at $20.835 billion rose by 11.7 percent from $18.654 billion last year while merchandise imports went up by 0.6 percent to $18.011 billion from $17.908 billion in 1999. Balance of trade in goods (BOT-G) for the period stood at a surplus of $2.824 billion.

External Trade Performance : April 1999

Total merchandise trade for January to April this year grew by 2.6 percent to $20.101 billion from $19.595 billion last year. Revenues from exports posted a 12.1 percent increase to $10.199 billion this year from $9.101 billion a year ago while expenditures for imports declined by 5.6 percent to $9.903 billion from $10.494 billion. The balance of trade in goods (BOT-G) was in surplus at $296.0 million.

Total external trade in goods for January to August 2000 amounted to $45.020 billion which was 6.1 percent higher than $42.434 billion in 1999. Merchandise exports valued at $24.365 billion rose by 11.4 percent from $21.865 billion last year while total import went up by 0.4 percent to $20.655 billion from $20.569 billion a year ago. Balance of trade in goods (BOT-G) for the period stood at a surplus of $3.710 billion compared to $1.296 billion last year.

External Trade Performance : May 1999

Merchandise trade for the first five months of 1999 grew by 3.0 percent to $25.382 billion from $24.634 billion last year. This growth was mainly due to a 12.4 percent increase in exports to $12.946 billion from $11.516 billion a year ago. Payments for imports dropped by 5.2 percent to $12.436 billion from $13.118 billion, leading to a positive balance of trade in goods (BOT-G) of $509.0 million compared to the deficit of $1.602 billion last year.

Total merchandise trade for May 1999 reached $5.280 billion, which was an increase of 4.8 percent over $5.039 billion a year ago. While earnings from exports amounting to $2.747 billion went up by 13.7 percent from $2.415 billion a year earlier, total payment for imports went down by 3.5 percent to $2.533 billion from $2.624 billion in 1998. The BOT-G was in surplus of $214 million.

External Trade Performance : June 1999

Total merchandise trade between the Philippines and the rest of the world for the first half of 1999 grew by 5.5 percent to $30.910 billion from $29.285 billion last year. Merchandise exports valued at $15.803 billion increased by 13.6 percent from $13.906 billion in 1998. Aggregate value of imports amounted to $15.107 billion, which was 1.8 percent lower than $15.379 billion a year ago. The balance of trade in goods (BOT-G) amounted to $696.0 million in favor of the Philippines.
