2010 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry - Mining and Quarrying Sector for Establishments with Total Employment of 20 and Over : Preliminary Results

The 2010 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) conducted nationwide covered a total of 75 Mining and Quarrying establishments with total employment of 20 and over. Majority of these establishments were engaged in mining of non-ferrous metal ores except precious metals with 33 establishments or 44.0 percent of the total.

2002 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) - Mining and Quarrying Sector : Final Results

The 2002 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) covered a total of 317 mining and quarrying establishments all over the country. Of the total establishments, 255 or 80.4 percent were mining and quarrying establishments with average total employment (ATE) of less than 20 workers and the remaining 19.6 percent (62 establishments) accounted for establishments with ATE of 20 and more workers.

Number of Establishments Dropped to 187

The 2003 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) estimated the total number of establishments engaged in mining and quarrying activities to be 187, down by 41percent from the 317 establishments in business operations during the year 2001. The number of establishments in all industries under this sector registered negative growth rates ranging from 50 percent for the stone quarrying, clay and sand pits industry and 33.1 percent for the non-metallic mining and quarrying industries. Figure 1 shows a comparison of the total number of mining and quarrying establishments in 2003 and 2001.

2005 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) - Mining and Quarrying Sector : Preliminary Results

The year 2005 is an important period for the sector as the Mining Act of 1995 was passed into law when the Supreme Court upholded its constitutionality. This law opens the Philippine mining industry to foreign investments and ensures corporate social responsibility on the part of the mining companies for environmental protection and sustainable development of the countrys resources.
