Monthly Integrated Survey of Selected Industries : July 2009

In July, Value of Production Index (VaPI) of the manufacturing industry contracted by 18.8 percent on a year-on-year basis, according to the preliminary results of the Monthly Integrated Survey of Selected Industries (MISSI). Fifteen out of 20 major sectors exhibited decreases in production value with petroleum products contributing the largest decrease of 48.7 percent, followed by other nine major sectors that posted two-digit decrements, namely: leather products, basic metals, furniture and fixtures, footwear and wearing apparel, beverages, paper and paper products, transport equipment, electrical machinery and rubber and plastic products.

Value of Production Index (VaPI) of the manufacturing industry recovered at 2.1 percent in November 2009 from a year-on-year negative growth observed since November 2008, according to the preliminary results of the Monthly Integrated Survey of Selected Industries (MISSI). This was accounted for by the significant performance in production of petroleum products, which rose by 42.9 percent after registering a decline of 31.1 percent in October 2009. Other major sectors that posted two-digit increases were miscellaneous manufactures, tobacco products, non-metallic mineral products, basic metal, and rubber and plastic products.

Value of Production Index (VaPI) for total manufacturing increased at a slower rate of 16.0 percent in July 2010, according to the preliminary results of the Monthly Integrated Survey of Selected Industries (MISSI). This was attributed by 16 major sectors that reported increases in production value, with two-digit growth observed in the following: leather products, transport equipment, furniture and fixtures, miscellaneous manufactures, petroleum products, non-metallic mineral products, beverages, basic metal, rubber and plastic products, electrical machinery, machinery except electrical, textiles and fabricated metal products.

Monthly Integrated Survey of Selected Industries : November 2003

Value of Production Index (VaPI) of the manufacturing industry slipped by 0.4 percent in November 2003 compared with a year-ago figure, according to the preliminary results of the Monthly Integrated Survey of Selected Industries (MISSI). Sectors attributing to the drop were the following: leather products, tobacco, furniture and fixtures, footwear and wearing apparel, wood and wood products, transport equipment, non-metalllic mineral products and electrical machinery.
