The total number of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who worked abroad at anytime during the period April to September 2011 was estimated at 2.2 million. The estimate for the same period of 2010 was 2.0 million (Table 1 and Figure 1). The overseas contract workers (OCWS) or those with existing work contract abroad comprised 95.3 percent of the total OFWs in 2011.

The total number of Filipinos (OFW) who worked abroad during the period from April to September 1996 was estimated at 900 thousand persons. The figure was higher by 13.2 percent or 105 thousand from 795 thousand workers during the same period last year.
The number of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who worked abroad during the period April to September 2009 was estimated at 1.9 million. Of this total, 98.8 percent were overseas contract workers (OCWs) or with existing work contracts abroad.
The number of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who worked abroad at anytime during the period April to September 2008 reached 2.0 million as reported by their families. The 2008 estimate represents an increase of 14.6 percent over the 1.7 million OFWs estimated for the period April to September 2007. The Overseas Contract Workers (OCWs) or those with existing work contract abroad comprised 94.0 percent (1.9 million) of the total OFWs during the period April to September 2008. This number is 16.5 percent more than the 1.6 million OCWs for the same period in 2007.
