Negros Oriental: More Than One-Third of the Houses Were Built in the Latter 90's (Results from the 2000 Census of Population and Housing, NSO)

The 2000 Census of Population and Housing results showed that Negros Oriental registered a total population of 1,130,088 persons, higher by 104,841 persons over the 1995 Census of Population results. This figure recorded a 2.11 percent annual population growth rate, higher by 0.17 percentage point than the annual population growth rate during the 1990 to 1995 period. A corresponding increase on the number of households was also recorded at 227,160 households, higher by 22,029 households five years ago. This resulted to an average household size of 4.97 persons, almost the same as in 1995 (4.99 persons) and the national average of five persons.

Negros Occidental: The Fourth Most Populated Province in the Philippines (Results from the 2000 Census of Population and Housing, NSO)

Based on the results of the 2000 Census of Population and Housing (Census 2000), Negros Occidental (excluding Bacolod City) was the fourth largest province in terms of population size. It contributed 2.79 percent (2,136,647) persons of the total Philippine population. This figure was higher by 104,806 persons than the 1995 population. It registered an average annual growth of 1.08 percent. If the current rate continues, the population of the province is expected to double in 64 years.

Mountain Province - Home of the Kankanais (Results from the 2000 Census of Population and Housing, NSO)

Mountain Province, nestled at the heart of Cordillera Range, registered a total population of 140,439 persons in the 2000 Census of Population and Housing. It registered an annual growth rate of 1.88 percent from 1990 to 2000 and 1.54 percent from 1995 to 2000. The number of households registered at 27,721, an increase of 3,975 over the 1990 figure. This gave an average household size of 5.1 persons from 4.9 persons in 1990, same size as that in 1995, and higher than the national average of five persons.

Misamis Occidental: Growth Rate Down to 1.27 Percent (Results from the 2000 Census of Population and Housing, NSO)

The province of Misamis Occidental registered a total population of 486,723 persons in the year 2000 from 458,965 in 1995. This figure translated to an annual growth rate of 1.27 percent, a decrease of 0.21 percentage point from the 1990 to 1995 period. The number of households was recorded at 99,901, higher by 8,491 households from 1995. This gave an average household size of 4.86 persons, a slight decrease from the 1995 (5.01) and national average (five persons).
