As mandated by Commonwealth Act No. 591, Batas Pambansa Blg. 72, and EO No. 121, the NSO is the sole agency authorized to undertake a national census of population and housing. Census 2000 is the 11th Census of Population and the 5th Census of Housing since 1900.
