2009 Survey of Tourism Establishments in the Philippines (STEP) for Other Tourism Characteristic Establishments : Preliminary Results

The 2009 Survey of Tourism Establishments in the Philippines (STEP) covered a total of 2,015 establishments engaged in other tourism characteristic activities. Of the total, 237 or 11.8 percent had a total employment (TE) of 20 and over while 1,778 or 88.2 percent had a TE of less than 20.

Based on the final results of the 2009 Survey of Tourism Establishments in the Philippines (STEP), the total number of establishments engaged in Health and Wellness was estimated to be 3,797. Private medical activities accounted for the biggest number of establishments with 2,240 or 59.0 percent of the total. This was followed by Private hospitals, sanitaria and other similar activities with 858 establishments or 22.6 percent. Establishments engaged in Slendering and body building activities recorded the least number of establishments with 205 (5.4%) Figure 1 displays the distribution of establishments by industry sub-class.

Transport operators, tour and travel agencies reported a total of 67,974 employees in 2009. One in every two employees was employed either in Inter-urban bus line operation (I60111) or Supporting and auxiliary activities to water transport (I63200). Domestic air passenger and freight transport (I62101)/International air passenger and freight transport (I62102) placed third with 11,372 employees or 16.7 percent. The least number of workers was found in Non-scheduled air transport (I62200) with 343 or 0.5 percent.

Based on the final results of the 2009 Survey of Tourism Establishments in the Philippines (STEP) conducted nationwide, the Philippines had a total of 13,120 establishments engaged in Food and Beverage Service Activities. Restaurants, cafes and fast food centers comprised the biggest number with 10,282 or 78.4 percent of the total. Refreshment stands, kiosks and counters ranked second with 1,997 (15.2%). Other eating and drinking places, n.e.c., on the other hand, recorded the lowest number of establishments with only 7. Based on the final results of the 2009 Survey of Tourism Establishment in the Philippines (STEP) conducted nationwide, the Philippines had a total of 1,475 accommodation establishments, 665 or 45.1 percent of which had a total employment of 20 and over while the remaining 810 (54.9%) had a total employment of less than 20.
