2002 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) - Transport, Storage and Communications : Preliminary Results

Supporting auxiliary transport activities; activities of travel agencies dominated the sector in terms of number of establishments

The 2002 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) for transport, storage and communications sector covered 9,640 establishments. Establishments with an average total employment (ATE) of less than 20 employees represented 87.7 percent of the total establishments while the remaining 12.3 percent were establishments with an average total employment (ATE) of 20 and over. The 2003 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) for transport, storage and communications sector covered 9,276 establishments. Establishments with an average total employment (ATE) of less than 20 employees represented 89.3 percent (8,280 establishments) of the total establishments while the remaining 10.7 percent (996 establishments) were establishments with an average total employment (ATE) of 20 or more.

Supporting auxiliary transport activities dominate the transport, storage and communications sector

There were 10,462 establishments engaged in transport, storage and communications based on the 2000 Census of Philippine Business and Industry (CPBI). Supporting auxiliary transport activities (PSIC I63) had the largest number of establishments accounting for 42.7 percent (4,466) of the total in the sector. Land transport; transport via pipelines comprised the second largest group with 3,290 establishments (31.4 percent).

The transport, storage and communications sector covered an estimated total number of 9,539 establishments in the entire country, according to the results of the 2005 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry. About 86.8 percent (8,283 establishments) of these had an average total employment (ATE) of less than 20 employees while establishments with an average total employment (ATE) of 20 or more accounted for 13.2 percent (1,256 establishments).
